Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae

Ben Bach
Lamborghini gives its flagship model a final blowout before sending the Aventador coupe and roadster to the slaughterhouse.

The Lamborghini Aventador is not long for this world. Yet, before it sends the 12-cylinder coupe and roadster to the slaughterhouse, Lamborghini is giving its long-serving flagship model a final farewell in the form of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae, which offers Aventador SVJ-like performance in a less—by Lamborghini's standards—ostentatious package.

In fact, the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae's 769-hp stable actually packs 10 more horses than the Aventador SVJ's. Alas, the Ultimae coupe's dry weight of 3,417 pounds tips the scales some 55 pounds heavier than the SVJ. As a result, the two Aventador models manage the same 2.8-second trot to 62 mph, per Lamborghini. The 3,527-pound Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae roadster, meanwhile, takes 2.9 ticks to hit the same mark (the same as the 3,472-pound SVJ roadster). Regardless of body style, all Ultimaes top out at just shy of 221 mph.

Ultimate Performance, Ultimate Looks

Although the Ultimae forgoes the big wing and bold maw of the SVJ for more modest wares, it still offers model-specific decor to help it stand out from the rest of the Aventador pack. This includes trim-specific front and rear fascia designs, the former of which seemingly cribs its look from the mug of the Aventador S, while the latter piece steals its style from the tail end of the Aventador SVJ.

To further drive home the special nature of the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae, Lamborghini fits the cabin with so-called "comfort" seats (which the brand also fit in the Aventador S) with "Ultimae'' embroidered into the bolster, while a dashboard plaque notes the limited-edition status of the Ultimae—Lamborghini plans to build just 350 coupes and 250 roadsters.
